During the late fall season, the temperatures are beautiful, the city comes alive with holiday decorations, and the crowds have thinned offering guests an enjoyable time in the city. Holiday Shopping on Magazine Street – Imagine six miles of shopping galore with any and every type of shop you can think of! That’s our very popular Magazine Street, giving visitors endless shopping, art, dining and entertainment. The holiday shopping starts this Saturday, November 9th and will continue through Christmas Eve.
Go ice skating at NOLA ChristmasFest – This Christmas extravaganza is the Crescent City’s signature holiday celebration. It is all hosted at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Try some ice skating at New Orleans’ only ice skating rink, ride carnival rides, attempt the climbing wall, visit with Santa and other holiday characters, see beautifully decorated trees and two miles of lights! It’s all taking place from December 20 – 31, 2019.
Celebrate LUNA Fête in Lafayette Square – This year marks the 6th anniversary for LUNA Fête and the Arts Council New Orleans promises it will be bigger and better than ever. It’s totally free to the public and boasts all kinds of illuminated art installations. In addition to the art you’ll find a nightly arts market and food and drink from local vendors. It’s a fun event for the whole family and will be taking place December 12-15, 2019.
See over a million lights at Celebration in the Oaks – The 2019 season is the 33rd anniversary of Celebration in the Oaks, one of New Orleans’ favorite holiday traditions. Glowing and spectacular light displays adorn City Park, from Thanksgiving through New Year’s. General admission lets you stroll through the park or you can get an unlimited pass for the rides at the City Park Train & Amusement Park.
Spark your Christmas spirit at a Parade – There are a couple holiday parades happening in December for you to watch. The Krewe of Jingle Parade is New Orleans’ annual downtown holiday parade. This is no small town parade! See incredibly decorated floats, tap to your toes to the marching bands and you won’t miss the towering stilt walkers. It’s taking place December 7th and will start at Lee Circle and continue down St. Charles Avenue to Canal Street. Close to our inn so you won’t be far to walk to the festivities! Another one is the Jingle on the Boulevard Parade, taking place December 14th. Here you will see some of the city’s best marching bands, signature souvenir throws and perhaps some celebrity guest appearances! The route starts at Crowder Boulevard and Morrison Road.
