The summer season has been incredible so far in New Orleans! It’s flying by but still, so much fun still to be had! NOLA hosts millions of visitors each and every year due to our vibrant community, food scene, beauty, attractions, activities, and more. Did you know that there are more than 135 festivals annually, which equates to roughly one festival every three days? There are over 1,200 restaurants, more than 100 miles of trails to bike on, and over 260 hours of sunshine each month in the summer! Now, it can get hot…and for some, spots to explore that offer a bit of a break from the heat make the top of the list.
Cool Off on a Hot Summer Day in New Orleans
The first place on your list can be Mardi Gras World. When you can’t be here for the actual festival of Mardi Gras, this fantastic building allows you to view the floats and costumes, learn some history, meet some of the artists, and enjoy some of the famous King Cake!
If you feel up for some adventure “off the ground” check out the New Orleans Boulder Lounge. This popular facility lets you try climbing and all skill levels are welcome. You can rent a pair of shoes there and you’ll want to wear some comfortable clothing. They offer lots of classes for beginners wanting to learn the ropes.
Mid-City Lanes Rock ‘N’ Bowl is another fun indoor place where you can escape the Louisiana heat for an afternoon. This unique venue combines a bowling alley with a music club. Make a few strikes, enjoy some Creole-inspired food and cut a rug on the dance floor all in the same place!
The Audubon Aquarium is a great place to beat the heat. It is located on the Mississippi River adjacent to the French Quarter. There is so much to see here—view the stingrays and marvel at the gigantic sharks in the 400,000-gallon Gulf of Mexico Exhibit.
