Some differences are a matter of taste—literally. At breakfast you might order a vegetable omelet while your friend asks for blueberry pancakes. Did you know you have 10,000 taste buds and that our ability to taste begins in the womb? How cool is that? Some people are born with sensitive taste buds for sweet, while others are born with a sensitivity to salty, sour, or bitter. Well today, we are calling grabbing the attention of all of you out there who claim to have a sweet tooth! The King Cake Festival is coming up and you don’t want to miss it!
Happening January 27th, 2019 at Champions Square, the King Cake Festival is a favorite event for both locals and visitors alike. This Carnival-themed festival will bring more than two dozen bakeries from across the Crescent City and beyond to battle it out for various titles. Titles up for grabs include Best Presentation, Most Unique, Best Traditional, and People’s Choice. King Cake is one of New Orleans’ sweetest, most popular treats and you’ll get to experience how each baker puts their own twist on this classic dessert.
The festival, which benefits the Ochsner Hospital for Children is free to the public and will have a number of family-friendly activities, live music performances, and more. Spend the day strolling and sampling–bakeries take 1 tasting ticket per 1 sample of king cake. Tasting tickets can be purchased upon entry to the festival as well as inside the festival. Some of the bakeries involved this year include Balestra’s, Langenstein’s, Bywater Bakery, The Cocoa Bean Bakery & Café, Buttermilk Drop Bakery & Café, Sugar Love Cakes, Caluda’s King Cakes, and many many more!
