The Big Easy, as New Orleans is commonly called, has no shortage of spectacular celebrations, food experiences, special events, and more no matter the time of year or what your interests are. We would love to have you experience your own NOLA getaway at our inn and if you’re thinking of joining us around Memorial Day, there will be some fun things happening around town!
Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May and is an American holiday that honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. It originated after the Civil War and wasn’t an official holiday until 1971. Many folks observe this day by visiting memorials, celebrating and honoring lost loved ones, and participating in parades. Here in New Orleans there are a few events happening around this holiday that we’d like you to know about!
We encourage you to visit the National World War II Museum. You can easily spend a day here—a must see for any history buff. It was ranked 3rd in the top three museums in the U.S. by Trip Advisor in 2015. You’ll love the galleries and artifacts that truly bring American History to life.
Surrounding the Memorial Day holiday, the New Orleans Wine & Food Experience will also be taking place May 23-27. Hundreds of restaurants and wineries will join forces to offer exclusive dinners, seminars, and other special events. The New Orleans Greek Festival is another fun event that will be going on from May 25-27. Try traditional Greek food, wine and pastries, enjoy Greek dancing and live music and tour the amazing Greek Cathedral.
Memorial Day, while solemn due to what we are remembering, is also the “unofficial” start to the summer season. There is so much to experience and we cannot wait for what this summer season has in store in New Orleans – you do not want to let is pass by without a visit here. You can book a room online at our elegant inn, conveniently located on Canal Street. Or, contact us anytime if we can help you plan the perfect NOLA getaway.
