If you are a fan of college football then you no doubt make plans to watch the anticipated Sugar Bowl each year—the semi final game of the college football playoff, which determines college football’s Football Bowl Subdivision national champion. This game is one of the great traditions here in New Orleans. Did you know that the Sugar Bowl, the second oldest bowl game, has been played annually since January 1, 1935? Our community comes alive during this time as and we highly encourage you to come our way and experience the fun and fanfare happening around town.
What started in the 1930s has now become Louisiana New Year’s tradition. Football fanatics flood in and with all of the pre and post game activities going on, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy. The Mercedes-Benz Superdome, home to the New Orleans Saints, is the venue for the annual Allstate Sugar Bowl game, which will be taking place January 1, 2018. It is the largest fixed domed structure in the world and can seat over 75,000 people – it is an incredible place to watch a game where no seat is a bad seat.
While the game is the highlight, it is certainly not all that is going on. Fan Fest is where you’ll find pre-game celebrations, marching bands, pep rallies and more. It will be taking place December 30th from 12 pm – 6 pm and December 31st from 12 pm – 12 am. On December 31st both schools participating in the playoff game will hold their pep rallies and then of course you can’t miss out on our New Year’s fun. There’s our New Year’s Eve Parade that starts at 3pm and travels through the French Quarter to Canal Street. Then, you won’t want to miss the celebration in Jackson Square in the evening with celebrity guests and live music as NOLA celebrates the New Year’s countdown.
We have our beautiful studio apartment still available for this time but you will want to book fast! Or, choose from a variety of available rooms should you desire to start the year off right with a refreshing and relaxing stay after the New Year’s activities.
