FlowersMaybe it’s the heat, but we’re still in August, and we are already looking forward to December.  Enjoy the holiday season festivities in New Orleans while staying at the historic Canal Street Inn, which is offering a special “Papa Noel” flat rate of $145/room or suite from December 1st to December 19th.  According to legend, Papa Noel, or the Cajun Santa Claus, delivers his toys from a pirogue pulled by eight alligators making their way down the river alit with bonfires set by families awaiting his arrival.  Experience a traditional bonfire and then dine at one of the many local restaurants offering Reveillon (fixed price) menus with seasonal specialties.  Free live music, performances in period costumes, caroling in Jackson Square, lighting of the Christmas tree, a romantic evening ride on the streetcar – all can be enjoyed from the centrally located Inn. Riverboat cruiAnd the locals always end the evening with hot chocolate and beignet, coffee and dessert.  Special holiday performances at La Petite Theater are something the whole family can enjoy.   And, for a spectacular light show, you have to do “Christmas in the Oaks” at City Park.  More than a million lights are arranged in various scenes, as well as rides, an outdoor movie theater, crafts and food to enjoy.
